Many years ago, I had a talk, a very interesting conversation
with two friends of mine, and they happened to be also my
teachers and my very good mentors. And we were talking
about the mind, because we talk about stuff like that with
tendency [téndǝnsi]
friends, yeah? And we were talking about the lines, and do you 경향
know how our minds work? We have the tendency to spend a
lot of time in the past, memories, those good old days, “I was
so happy then. That was so good, I felt so good,” or, “That was
bad, I got hurt, they hurt me, I don’t want to go there, no, no,
no, no, no, that was bad.”
몇 년 전, 제 친구 두 명과 아주 흥미로운 대화를 나눈 적이 있었
는데, 그 친구들은 제 스승이자 훌륭한 멘토이기도 했습니다. 그리
고 우리는 마음에 대해 이야기하고 있었어요. 왜냐하면 우리는 친
구들과 그런 이야기를 하잖아요? 대사에 대해 이야기하고 있었는
데, 우리 마음이 어떻게 작동하는지 아시나요? 우리는 과거, 추억,
좋은 옛날에 많은 시간을 보내는 경향이 있습니다.”그때는 정말
행복했습니다. 그때는 정말 좋았어, 기분이 좋았어” 또는 “그때는
나빴어, 상처받았어, 상처받았어, 거기 가고 싶지 않아, 안 돼, 안
돼, 안 돼, 안 돼, 안 돼, 그건 나빴어”라고 생각하죠.
So we like to spend a lot of time swimming in this pond.
And when we are not busy remembering and swimming in
the pond of the past, any guess where we go? Future thinking,
“What will go wrong? Or it will be a success? Or they will not
love me?” We don’t even know who they are, but they will not
love me, you know? “No, it’s gonna be bad, I will not be.” No.
And our mind does this, we do this most of the time. We jump
in the pond, and we talk to our dad, past, or to our imagined
future, and we spend very little time here in the present, which
is the only moment of power that we have, is when we finally
are, we bring into being.
